Where We Belong: An Outdoor School Story

Join sixth graders Leah and Audrey from Beaverton’s Conestoga Middle School as they embark on their outdoor school journey. With the steady guidance of science teacher Earl Flemming, the students arrive at Camp Meriwether on the Oregon coast, ready to embrace new challenges, build friendships, and connect with the natural world.

Through shared experiences and quiet moments of growth, the students discover a sense of belonging and thrive in a supportive community.

    Last year, the Oregon Legislature cut the Outdoor School budget by 20%. We will not be able to provide the same level of Outdoor School programming next year as we have in years past. We invite you to attend one of the following virtual listening sessions to help inform our planning.

    This past spring, the Oregon Legislature reduced statewide outdoor school funding by 20% for the biennium. The decision, based on a recommendation from the Higher Education Coordinating Commission, was finalized late in the legislative session without input from school district leaders.
