Our communications team offers technical assistance, networking and support to educational staff in the region who have a community relations role. We are available to assist with:
- Crisis response
- SIA community relations plans
- Translation and interpretation, including training on how to work with an interpreter
- Graphic design
- Messaging
- Convening and networking around regionally relevant topics
In addition to providing support to regional school districts, we help our departments, schools and programs provide critical information to our staff, families and other community partners.

Tutors Needed for New After-School Literacy Program in Vernonia
A new after-school high dosage tutoring program is launching in late February in Vernonia, and organizers are seeking up to 10 paid tutors to support local elementary students in reading and writing.

Oregon's 9th Grade On-Track Rates Released: Regional Schools Celebrate Major Gains for Students Furthest from Opportunity
Across the NWRESD region, which includes 36 high schools in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook and Washington counties, a record 90.3% students are on track to graduate in four years compared to 86.6% for the rest of the state.

New Early Literacy Data Highlights Progress and Opportunities for Northwest Oregon Schools
The numbers are out, and the data paints a mixed picture. NWRESD’s region, which includes 20 school districts in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook and Washington counties, saw some districts with notable gains in early literacy and others with lower scores than hoped.

Sunset High School Teacher Jason Galbraith Named 2025-26 Regional Teacher of the Year
Jason is one of 16 educators to be named Regional Teacher of the Year by the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Lottery. He teaches computer science and engineering at Sunset High School in Beaverton.

In this new role, Misty will provide support to our new Office of School Performance and Workforce Development as it seeks to expand career, college and workforce programs for our region’s students, with a top goal of increasing access for students in rural schools.

Tillamook Bay Community College President Sworn in for Second Term on NWRESD Board
At the July 31 work session, Paul took his oath to serve for a four-year term in the higher education position. He was reappointed to the role by the five zoned board members in an unanimous vote.

Portland Educator to Lead Specialized School in Beaverton
The program, which is co-located on the St. Mary’s Home for Boys campus in southwest Beaverton, is home to about 50 students.

9th Grade Success Network Featured by Columbia County Spotlight
Clatskanie, Rainier and St. Helens school districts all saw significant jumps in the number of freshmen earning at least a quarter of the credits they need to graduate in four years. Scappoose continues to maintain rates above 90%.
