The Instructional Coaching Network is a professional learning community for educators who facilitate adult learning in their school or district. By supporting instructional coaches, and K-12 Educators, the network helps school districts expertly implement strategies across their system and educator workforce that will lead to student growth. The regional approach connects coaches educators from districts across our region for job-alike collaboration and sharing of resources.

Participants will develop strategies to collaboratively plan with teachers, provide personalized feedback and use a continuous improvement model to establish and pursue student-focused goals.

Offerings:

  • Advanced Institute for Instructional Coaches and Mentors led by New Teacher Center 
    • In this high quality Professional Development series, Instructional Coaches and Mentors will immerse in a total of 8 sessions- 4 in person and 4 virtual- where they will get to strengthen their coaching/mentoring skills using high leverage tools, network with critical friends and discuss problems of practice. Educators get to do hands-on learning through in field coaching organized by the ESD team.

  • New Coaches Academy:
    •  Coaches who are new to the network will get additional time with our ICN team to get to understand the tools and strategies.
  • Instructional Rounds
    • The ICN team helps organize and lead Instructional Rounds for district educators ( instructional coaches and teachers) to observe classrooms and learn about effective, culturally sustaining teaching practices. The instructional rounds process provides a disciplined, collaborative way for schools and districts to: Diagnose learning needs for students and educators. We partner with district teams to focus on and improve learning tasks thereby developing a shared vision of high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Professional Development: 
    • By leveraging resources, we co-design with district educators and provide customized professional development based on district and school improvement goals. Examples: Scoring Writing Using Six+One Traits of Writing, Culturally Responsive Teaching to Create an Optimal Learning Environments, Constructive Feedback, Equitable Grading Practices, Universal Design for Learning, etc.

  • The Power of Transformative Lesson Planning by Lori Cohen:
    •  The 5 part series introduces the Transformative Lesson Planning Framework, a research-based approach that supports equitable, brain-compatible, and culturally responsive instruction.

  • Will the district pay for the High Quality Professional Development?
    • Yes! The NWRESD partners with the New Teacher Center to Provide High Quality Professional Development for all Mentors and Instructional Coaches from the component districts in the NW region.  Participation is free of cost for all mentors and coaches from the component districts
  • Will NWRESD pay for substitute time?
    • Yes! NWRESD will reimburse participating school districts for their substitute costs associated with this program for both in-person and virtual events.
  • Will NWRESD pay for mileage?
