Students who regularly attend school are more likely to master foundational knowledge and skills, read proficiently by the end of third grade and graduate from high school. We are partnering with district and  attendance teams to heighten community awareness about the importance of attending school regularly and strengthen the connections between students, families and schools.

The Importance of Attendance

Missing just two days of school a month means a student has missed more than 10% of the school year. Absences, whether they are excused or unexcused, put students at risk of not graduating on time and can impact them in numerous ways. Identifying barriers to attendance is an important part of keeping students engaged in school, graduating on time, and thriving in all areas of their lives.

Did You Know?

  • Children who are not reading at grade level by the end of third grade are 18% less likely to graduate.

  • Students are considered at-risk when they are chronically absent for an average of two days a month or about 10% of the school year.

  • Most of the curriculum in schools build on the information previously taught. Students need to be in the classroom to have the most opportunity to gain skills necessary to move forward with confidence and mastery.

BASES Collaborative

Why BASES?
Our BASES team also provides a 3-part training series called the BASES Collaborative. The content provided during these sessions will have a direct and lasting positive impact on MTSS supports within school buildings. The goal of this collaborative is to provide meaningful and tangible tools that staff can implement immediately within programs and school buildings to see an improvement in attendance, engagement, sense of belonging, and inclusive practices and policies.
