This classroom functions as a self-contained program within the Cascade and Pacific Academy programs and serves students in grades 4-8 who need significant adult support to participate in an academic setting. Students most likely to benefit from the program have the potential to access grade-level instruction, but mental health or behavioral needs have resulted in cumulative academic and SEL skill deficits. Students may be so far behind their peers that they are unable to participate in small group instruction even at their appropriate skill-level.
Targeted skills will include participating in whole group instruction, maintaining emotional regulation for extended periods of time, and using appropriate communication skills in the school setting. Students will most likely need 1:1 support for a large part of their day. As students progress in the program, they will have the opportunity to access classes at Cascade or Pacific Academies, with the intent that they may transition to one of those programs, or return to their home district.
